Biography


Andrew Caplan is a journalist in Central Florida, who covers a variety of topics for multiple publications. He received his bachelor’s degree from USF St. Petersburg in mass communications with a concentration in journalism and media studies. During his junior and senior year at USFSP, he held the sports editor position for The Crow’s Nest, the campus newspaper.

Andrew interviewed hall of famers Larry Brown, Jack Youngblood, and Mike Singletary, Super Bowl MVPs Joe Flacco and Drew Brees, as well as other players and coaches in the Tampa area for the school paper. He has covered everything from campus club sports and the school’s nationally ranked sailing teams to NFL games. He created, wrote and hosted Talk Sports Live, a weekly 2-hour sports talk show on Bulls Radio.

Andrew interned with Equality Florida at the time when the state uplifted the ban on same sex marriages. On his first day of work, he was sent to a court house to interview newly weds and share their stories on social media. While with EQFL, he wrote several feature stories on soon-to-be or newly wed couples.

He also interned with the Citrus County Chronicle, a daily distributed paper, writing news, sports and feature stories. While with the Chronicle, several of his stories were ran as an 1A focus.

Currently, Andrew remains as a correspondent with the Chronicle, as well as a sports correspondent with the Tampa Bay Times. He is a frequent contributor to The Weekly Challenger and is working towards a master’s degree.
