Photography is a passion of mine. During my last semester at USFSP, I enrolled in a photojournalism course. For my semester project, I covered the Freedom Sailing Camp of Florida Inc. Their mission as stated on their website as:
“Freedom Sailing Camp of Florida’s Mission is to provide safe, enriching and affordable sailing for high functioning individuals within the autistic spectrum disorder. It allows them to explore and develop social skills that will empower them to strengthen their self-esteem and help them become self-sufficient individuals.”

I had the opportunity to photograph the summer kick-off cookout for Freedom Sailing Camp of Florida. It is through these images that a story is told. A story of a mom, an autism awareness activist, and her son Mark, a teenager on the autistic spectrum, her family, and volunteers, who team up together in an effort to provide positive social interaction along with new skills and confidence to adolescents with autism and their families. Collectively, they make up the Freedom Sailing Camp of Florida.
